Case Studies : Silk Road Partners (Pvt.) Limited
Silk Road International is a well established Corporate Advisory and Investment firm, based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They provide professional guidance to their clients and offer all the services required to safeguard their investments.
Silk Road Partners (Pvt.) Limited became Sri Lanka’s first company to launch a four-day work week for all their employees in 2022. Aaron Rusell-Davison, the founder and Managing Director of Silk Road Partners mentioned that a two-day weekend is insufficient for individuals to take care of their family's requirements, pursue further studies, and get much-needed rest given the increasing demands of the modern world. Instead of working long hours, they want to work better and more smartly. Many nations and businesses have implemented this kind of program, and as a result, their workforces' work-life balance has improved and productivity has increased significantly (Sunday Island, 2022).
From the perspective of the employee, there are several advantages, including enhanced engagement, greater work-life balance, and improved mental and physical health. The program has several benefits that extend beyond the employees themselves. For example, it gives the company an advantage in attracting top talent, boosts employee loyalty, and improves the company's reputation for prioritizing employee well-being at the center of business operations (Sunday Island, 2022).
Human Resources and Administration Executive of Silk Road International Shehan Shamalka confirmed that there won't be any disruptions to the regular workflow at the company; instead, workers will be assigned a roster-based day off on Mondays or Fridays (Sunday Island, 2022).
Above case study of Silk Road Partners (Pvt.) Limited implementing a four-day work week aligns well with the strategy of promoting work-life balance in Human Resource Management.
Conclusion
Work-life balance is a critical aspect of HRM that influences employee well being and organizational performance. A supportive work environment that fosters employee satisfaction, retention, and overall success can be created through prioritizing work-life balance initiatives.
